Default The best area around Tampa to relocate to

My husband and I are relocating from Atlanta to Tampa. We have elementary age kids and we are looking for the best schools. My job will be near MLK and Interstate 4. I want to be near my job and live in a community that has goods schools and very kids friendly. Can anyone give me some advice on what would be my best options?

Looking at your list, Brandon/Riverview would be closest to Tampa. I live in Riverview and commute through Crosstown/Downtown/275 to Westshore/Mall area, downtown Tampa is 15 mins from Riverview at 7:00 am, takes me avg 30 mins to Westshore. Figure property taxes will be 1-2%. Insurance will vary depending on new construction, etc. I pay about 0.75%. Brandon/Riverview are suburban with some sparsley developed areas. As far as hurricanes, it's a roll of the dice. If you're not to close to Tampa Bay, you may not need flood insurance. Nice beaches, I would figure min 45 mins to Pinellas, Anna Maria, Sarasota. Well worth the trip! My primary focus is a nice area, new construction, convenient access to employment, that's why I chose Riverview. Do some homework on what the commute would be like from home to work, before settling on any one place. Good luck!

No sinkholes in Oldsmar!
I agree with previous posters about this problem in Spring Hill and Pasco County in general.

I'm looking for a little bit of guidance as it pertains to the area's suburbs and surrounding cities.
I guess that the easiest way to do this would be to list the areas that we're considering (or at least curious about) and see if anyone has any information about those areas.
What I'm most curious about is the travel time from these areas to Tampa, travel time from these areas to the beach, property taxes in these areas, how these areas are affected by hurricanes and how expensive is home insurance with flood and hurricane protection, how suburban or rural are these areas? Those are a lot of specifics, so I guess whatever information anyone has about these areas would be greatly appreciated.

- Brandon
- Riverview
- Apollo Beach
- Plant City
- Lakeland
- Spring Hill

Thanks,
Charlie
Hi charlie,

My uncle lives in Spring Hill and just loves it. Great schools. One of my cousins goes to a school for students who excel in Math/Science and yes, it is public not pvt. school. He works at a golf course and my cousins golf for free. I have been there a few times. I personally wouldn't live there because it is too far from the city but there is a nice beach area/park within a couple miles of his home. As for travel time, the sunshine highway (I think that is the name) goes through Brooksville to SpringHill. US 19 is a horrible stretch with lights every mile or two. If you have a family with kids Spring Hill is wonderful. Enjoy!

My jaw is wide open reading only "1-2%" property taxes. Is that real? I still can't believe it! I guess I really do live in "tax" achusetts and trying to leave. my property taxes are something like 14-15% over $2,000 a year and that is cheap for here.

Hang on....

In Massachusetts taxes are 14-15% of property value???

I didn't know they could get that high. FL is 1-2% and Michigan was 0.5%
