Stereotyping someone by the car they drive reeks of snobbery, in my humble opinion.

Most of the beggars make $100 a day.

Education is free for a lot of people. Look up "Pell Grant".
I was trying REALLY hard to stay out of this one, but this post is full of so many errors, I couldn't.

First, a job at "McDonalds, clean toilets, do something for an income" might bring you home about $300 a check. Lets assume that you get a consistent $300 every two weeks (anyone who has ever worked minimum wage or a retail job knows that you don't usually make that much, but in fantasy land...). Now, lets look up the price of an apartment in Tampa. You do need somewhere to live, you know. In the city of Tampa, the cheapest apartment is $495 a month. Assuming you make $300 a check, you already don't make enough to live. Now, throw in a car so you can get to work, because living in suburbs and other less desirable areas don't have access to buses and you wont find a cheap apartment closer to the city center. Groceries? Gotta eat. This is all bare minimum. You've either never worked a low job before, or you haven't in a good few decades. Your expectations of living are extremely flawed.

As for the Pell Grant, no it doesn't make education even close to free for many people. It will cover your AA at a community college and it will cover your classes at a university (given that you can max it out, which many people can't). You still have to buy books (at about $100 a piece, being generous) and then supplies. What year did you graduate college and from where?

You didnt read it right. I said get an additional part time job -- keep the full time job to pay the bills - and use the part time money for the move. I think you are wrong about Pell Grants. Ive seen people get some sizable payments through the grant and it was renewed year after year so long as they kept their income down and since we are talking about poorer people in general, they can easily max it out. I believe the max Pell Grant award exceeds $5,000.00. Ya know, a lot of people have made it up the ladder from paupers. You get out what you put in. Nothing comes easy. I takes hard work and dedication. You share an apartment with a roommate or two, you all share the utilities. You pack a lunch or work. You bring snack with you so you're not pumping quarters into the vending machine every day. You carpool when possible. Own a disposable car. Buy your wardrobe in Ross and Bealls Outlet.
Nobody NEEDS a cell phone. Nobody NEEDS cable TV. Jeeze man, think about it: Did you go out on your own or did your parents support you until you were 30? From the life long friends that I have we all started out with very little. We advanced ourselves. Got better jobs, got promotions at jobs, worked hard. They all raised families just like their parents did. It has been that way for generations. People worked for $1.25 an hour and still made it. By the way, I went to Brooklyn College under the G.I. Bill from 1978 until 1985. Part time student. Couple of classes at a time. Everybody has an excuse these days. No excuses.

Pell grant is $5730 per year. Two semesters per year, so divide that by 2. $2856 per semester. They don't give you $5730 at the beginning of the year, they separate it for you. Now, a community college is just under $100 a credit hour. One credit hour is worth $97. You need 12 credits to maintain full time. At a community college you will instantly, on classes alone, have $1164 taken out of that. Now, assume that each of those classes is a standard class, not a science or math requiring a book, and that's over $100 a book.

Once again, this is just a community college. If you were to go to university, in state, the cost would be closer to $300/credit hour. There is no raise in the pell grant.

You're also talking to a current student.

That explains everything. Back when somebody actually could live on minimum wage. And back when you could get a full time job with a GED.

Thank you for breaking that down for them! The credits at my school were $385...because the community college did not offer them!

Yes; the Pell grant amount doesn't increase even though every college is upping their prices regularly. So, they become a moot point unless you go to the community college to become a secretary which prior to 2007 did not need a college degree to get hired!

Again, the year is 2014, and not 1964!

PRECISELY!

Unfortunately today, a job is considered some perk, and not a necessity for people to live and afford their lives.

You can rent books from Amazon an other outlets.
$2,856 -$1164 = $1,692 of free money each semester or $3,384 per year of free money.

Good luck in your continuing education.

Sometimes you got to share a home/apartment with another person (ie roommate).......another way to live less expensively as you work your way up the employment food chain.....

A job a "perk"? Put down the crack pipe. The unemployment rate is around 6%. That means
94% of the people work.

In this country people work for wages based on their knowledge, skills and abilities. The more of each you have the more you earn. Simple as that.

Last year 1.532 million hourly workers earned the federal minimum of $7.25 an hour; nearly 1.8 million more earned less than that because they fell under one of several exemptions (tipped employees, full-time students, certain disabled workers and others), for a total of 3.3 million hourly workers at or below the federal minimum. (Statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics).

The percentage of working Americans earning minimum wage or less is LESS THAN 5 PERCENT.

If all you can get is minimum wage that is your problem.
