Believe me, this practice has been going on for some time- before 2008 in my area. Here is my YELP review of our local hospital, which I do not use anymore because of this:

First to Review
BEWARE of using the Emergency Room since the MDs are not affiliated with the hospital -this means separate (and horrible) billing practices. In other words, Alex Hospital may be a PPO in your plan, but the Emergency Docs are not! I have had nothing but problems with the ER billing -on several occasions.

BTW, Obama and Obamacare get blamed for every little thing, which is ridiculous! George W Bush was also maligned for many things outside of his control, but not as much as Obama has been. The President is not the all-powerful Oz .

Good post.

Critics of Obamacare pretend that he came in an wrecked a perfectly fine health care system.

But in reality, the problems with affordability and access have been around for ages.

Obama gets blamed for everything from high gas prices to healthcare and jobs. You have a diveded govt. how in the hell is Obama Suspose to get anything done. The house shoots down everything he proposes because they are republicans. So how in the hect is it all obamas fault. He did not shut down Washington both houses did. He cannot give executive orders for everything. Bush got us into Iraq and afghan. We're are all those weapons of mass destruction? Wasent that the reason we invaded Iraq in the first place. And as far as the afghan war the soviets tried also and they failed. I'll tell you why Bush invaded Iraq oil black gold , Bush is a oil man. And bin laden obama got him not Bush. Obama walked into a nation were unemployment and the housing market crashed. He did not cause this but everyone is blaming him. So if we had a republican president and still had a divided house and senate do you think things would be different. No because the president still would have the democrats blocking their things they want to do.

I disagree, my disappointment is that he didn't address the affordability. Sure we sent billions on a website and Medicare expansion, but nothing was done to fix the costs.

I didn't say he fixed affordability. I said he was blamed for it being a problem along with every other healthcare issue today. But the problems have been around forever.

$4000 for the 6 xrays and the hospital room only. I'm still expecting the ER physician and the Radiologist. This is absolutely f-ing unbelievable. And my neck still hurts so they didn't do shyt for this money.

How do you fix affordability? ACA caps profits the insurance companies are allowed to keep, forcing them to refund to consumers any overages, that's a solid first step, Medicare has been better at using its purchasing power to lower costs, but what else can they do that had a realistic chance of not being considered socialist.

I imagine you'll get bills from the 1) hospital, 2) ER docs, and 3) radiologists who read those X-rays. If you don't have insurance, if I were you I'd get on the horn with the hospital billing department, at least, and see what they can do for you in the way of discounts, and possibly the docs, and arrange some sort of a payment plan with them. That's what I'd do if I had no insurance. They may give you a hard time, maybe not, but they also realize that they may not get a penny of their money without some sort of arrangements. Good luck and I hope your neck is better.
