Dale Mabry is, obviously, a North/South Street.

Outstanding question. I only visit Tampa now, but when I do, I attend an occasional Buc game and usually have that same exact question when exiting --

Go Bucs.

It is very confusing if you don't know your way around town. It can even be dangerous if people start to hesitate because of this confusing way the directing are showed.

That's been a subject of much discussion over the years and it's obviously one of the more confusing sign markings in the bay area.

If my memory serves correctly the E/W designation is for Hwy 92 (which is Dale Mabry at that point) which is and east/west route, although Dale Mabry Hwy is a north/south street.

Tony is right on.. although I always chuckle when I see that.. how confusing can that be if someone tells you they are on S. Dale Mabry which way do you go if you don't know the area?

I think at one point they talked about changing it, but I guess it was just talk.

I was giving directions to someone over the phone while she was driving and said she was on Hillsborough Ave. and approaching Dale Mabry. I almost didn't beleive her when she said the options were East or West. I guess "West" is the direction to go North.

Dale Mabry Hwy from Hillsborough Ave to Gandy Blvd is also known as Hwy 92.
Hwy 92 runs east and west.
The signs on I-275 depict Hwy 92 East/West and then underneath it states Dale Mabry Northbound/Southbound.
