I'm looking for a good restaurant at which my sisters and I can celebrate one of our birthdays. The sisters are coming from the Midwest, so I'm thinking seafood. We like non-chains, truly good food and a cool location would be nice, too. We're old married ladies, not looking for a party scene either. We're staying in St. Pete. Two of us are very adventurous food-wise and the other is open, just not as much as us.

Also, can anyone recommend a good Tampa-centric foodie website?

The Colonnade on Bayshore has good seafood. You overlook the bay if you can get a window seat. It is a favorite of old Tampa residents. The grouper oscar is wonderful.. I don't remember if they take reservations.

If you are in St. Pete, there are lots of choices. For something unique, non chain (2 locations) try Ceviche (if you like Tapas) Of course the Columbia is an experience (small chain) but I like the original in Tampa the best. A good food web site is http://tampabay.citysearch.com/ If you are willing to drive the beach Guppies on Indian Rocks is good seafood with nice atmosphere. Have fun

In Tampa, Bern's Steakhouse is famous, but don't let the name fool you. You can pick out your Pompano from a tank and I've heard the lobster is out of this world. They also have a wine room you can tour and a separate dessert room. It's not cheap, but it's a great experience if you've never been there. Here's a link to their website http://www.bernssteakhouse.com/bs_frame.htm (broken link).

Try St. Bart's Island House near TGH
The address/number:
1502 S Howard Ave
Tampa, FL 33606
(813) 251-0367

GREAT food! A little pricey but well, well worth it! Nice setting-more relaxed and chill and they even usually have a live band play too!

St. Barts is closed..just an FYI.

Id recommend Collanade for a Tampa seafood place with great views of the city and bay, and good seafood, place has been there since the 30's and a fav of the locals.
If you can get to the beaches, Salt Rock Grill is one of my favs.

Vizcaya, Spanish, North Dale Mabry so perhaps a bit far from St Pete. Plenty of seafood choices: my wife had excellent sea bass on a recent visit.
