I moved here over 2 yrs ago just when the Gulf to Bay/US19 overpass was just about to be torn up and that stretch from there to Ulmerton became a huge bottleneck. My 20 mi commute takes me from northern Pinellas down to Largo and it was just a beating even tho I only have to make that drive once/twice a week. This morning I decided to take US19 south during rush instead of my normal inside road drive and lo and behold, it was smooth going with no back ups or lights - the last new overpass just opened!!! I pulled into my work parking lot 15 minutes earlier than normal. The sun was brighter and the birds were chirpier. Thumbs up to the construction crew getting that bottleneck to open up finally - it'll be great when all the lanes are finished but there's light at the end of the tunnel now.

Awesome! Looks like that should be finished in Spring of 2015.

That is great. Road reconstruction can be a hassle for people for long periods of time, however, once it is done the benefits are wonderful.

Yes, extra thanks to Governor Rick Scott for adding extra funding to speed the project up by 6 months!

They have been working on that road for 20 years. I remember it all torn up in 1997 to the north of the area the OP is talking about.

Now all we need is 118th Avenue to be transformed into a limited-access connector from I-275 to US 19. Estimated date of completion: July 2034

I was pleasantly surprised driving south and no light for about 10 mile stretch. But the northbound is not finished yet and they are using an access road still taking quite a bit. so the same road will take different timeI am talking about pinellas park and Clearwater.

Last heard it's expected to start in 2017 and a 5 yrs project based on this article:

Accelerated plan will link I-275, U.S. 19 in Pinellas | TBO.com, The Tampa Tribune and The Tampa Times

Would be nice to drive all the way from Palm Harbor to the Skyway Bridge with no traffic lights. Something to look forward to.
