Hey.

My car died and I am stuck in the East Lake area - east of Lake Tarpon by the park. Was hoping someone knows of a non-rip-off, reliable auto repair place and/or shop that specializes in clutch or transmission work around here since I am not from this area. I can't figure out if the major immediate crisis is related to the brand new (less than 4 weeks old) starter I just had put in up in NC - OR - whether the clutch which had been slipping and which I had been hoping and trying to nurse through this trip - finally gave out and the problem is a flywheel issue. Either way, it won't start and is making a horrible loud sound when trying.

Thanks for any advice or info.

It may be something as simple as the starter is not positioned properly. Were there any shims on it? Did the car start without a grinding noise after you had it replaced? Do you have a wrench or wrenches to check the starter bolts (usually two). I am guessing that a starter bolt is loose.

As far as the clutch goes, I assume that it is hydraulic and that you checked the level of the fluid.

I can't recommend a place where you are. It's going to be tough finding someone who is working tomorrow so you may be stuck where you are until Friday or Saturday unless you can fix it yourself.

Based on your post, I don't think you need a transmission shop. You just need a garage that is open. Tell me what you think and what to search for.
