No, I am referring to garage restrictions as regulated by the HOA, here is an example from Hunters Green along with the direct link. They clearly restrict when and how your garage may be used.

"Garages. Garage doors shall be kept closed except when an
automobile is entering or leaving the garage or when a person
is actively using the interior of the garage. Garages are
intended for parking of vehicles Properly Registered in
accordance with this Declaration and may not be used for any
other purpose which would require one or more vehicles to be
parked on the driveway instead of being parked inside the
garage (i.e. storage, workshop, parking of vehicles not
Properly Registered in accordance with this Declaration). "

If an HOA told me how to use the inside of my garage, I'd promptly tell them to go **** themselves with a table saw.

Sounds like North Korea these HOA's are on a power trip. I will be dam if I would ever move into a HOA complex. No one tells me what I can and cannot do in my home, they can kiss my rearend. Who in the hell do they think they are God.

How is that "different" than what I just told you????

These are PARKING restrictions because the streets are too small to accommodate vehicles parked outside a garage or even a driveway and it is for emergency vehicle purposes!!!!
It doesn't mean you cannot install shelves for storage and store your crap in there too.

It also means you cannot run a bakery out of your garage or a computer repair shop or other business!!!!

North Korea is a little baby compared to some of these HOA's here!

Not going to re hash this, READ the rules for Hunters Green and it CLEARLY states the garage may not be used for storage.

I'm not planning on buying a house, just renting an apartment. Apartments with garages are about $100-150 out of my preferred budget, so I'm looking for a compelling reason to shell out $1200-1800 extra each year.

Just park it outside...it's a car, not a priceless Rembrandt. Many apartments offer a car port for the renters which helps to keep it out of the sun and (God forbid) the rain.

My biggest reason for parking in the garage for me is the dew on the car in the mornings, I hate it being hot as crap in the morning and then having to blast the heater to try to get the crap off the windows.. park in teh garage and the issue is solved

So much this. The dew is terrible. I hate driving with the windows down behind some "perspiring" car.
