I knew going into this that car insurance rates would be higher in FL than MD but I just received my quote from Geico and it would be double for the 6 month premium.

We have two new Mazda vehicles, both almost 30, married, clean driving record (no accidents or anything of that nature).

Is that what others have experienced or did you find a better rate with another company?

Mine doubled too when I moved from TX. If you or spouse is a teacher then Horace Mann will be the cheapest by at least $100/month

Thanks. She's a nurse, maybe there is some sort of discount for healthcare workers.

Ours more than doubled when we moved here from Massachusetts. We found a local agent who saved us a bunch. We had GEICO and Esurance before here and they were way higher than in MA. PM me and I can send you her info, if you like.

Try using an agent that can shop around. I used Ceci from Great Florida Insurance for my homeowners for a few years and did get an auto quote as well from her.

When I get a wild hair and think about moving, I check my rates in other cities. It shocks me how high Tampa is when Tallahasse, Atlanta, New Orleans, etc are all so low.

Mine doubled as well when I moved from TX...and GEICO gave me the lowest rate among all the ones I quoted. The caveat was my spouse had an accident that was still on record within past 3 yrs so any quote with and without accident came with a 25% additional premium once that was taken into consideration. Home and auto insurance are two items that comes with sticker shock for newcomers, at least for me.

Doubled here as well. Don't worry a lot of people drive with no insurance here, that's why so many hit and runs. Look at some of the junk cars they drive do you really think they have insurance.
