Head over to O'Briens and have a Guinness and some great pub food ... might brighten your day.

Sorry were you talking about Carrollwood or Brandon? You just gave me flashbacks when driving down Ehrlich Rd and Bearss and Dale Mabry.

I tend to agree about the soullessness present there. Frankly if there were other options close to town I would choose them. Still though, if were looking for safety, and good schools (and that's it), I don't think it's a terrible option. I don't know that there are any "real communities", as you mention, on the Eastern Side of Tampa Bay, that are suburbs somewhat like Winter Park or Deland, that offer that type of non strip mall feel.

If I do end up in Brandon (which is possible, since I have some family there), my saving grace will be (Hopefully commuting to work at UT or HCC), which is a short an not that trafficy commute taking the beltway. And also (from the mall), I would literally only be 10 minutes away at that spot from Ybor City/Columbia, or 15 minutes from going on a run at Bayshore Boulevard/grabbing a pizza after at Bavaro's. Probably still a short enough commute to join the Ybor City Historical Society (Lemonade out of lemons)
