what do does Sternberg expect when he fields a team w/ AAA players?

Another bad sign that attendance at Rays games will be even worse this season | Rays Index

I feel for the guy on one side because he can't get anywhere with City of St Pete on moving this team out of that place...on the other, I think like you and realize he could bring in 1 or 2 big names to this roster to get fans interested.

The obvious answer would be "winning will be the only help for attendance"...but we know that isn't true with the Rays either.

AAA guys like Beckham?? He was the #1 pick in the entire 2008 draft for godssake. Why wouldn't they play him?

I'm beginning to think that you don't even follow the team. A couple weeks ago the Rays had the undisputed best pitching in the highly overpaid AL East. A few will be out due to injury so yes, some AAA guys will fill in, but that does not make the Rays anywhere near AAA team. Our competition still wishes they had our guys, I guarantee it.

Why bother having an MLB draft if "fans" are going to justify not buying tickets simply because the entire team isn't made up of free agents? Last time I checked, 100% of all Hall of Fame players started in the AAA.
The 2008 Rays had more "AAA" players than this team and they did just fine.

Face it, you want to blame someone for you not spending money on the team. Either that or you've just lost interest in the game. It's okay if you don't like baseball, just stop pretending that you do.

Very few on the Rays' roster would make the roster of an other MLB team - that's why the attendance is going to hit all-time lows this coming season. Longoria and Loney and a couple of pitchers. If Sternberg can't afford salaries, he's in the wrong business and needs to sell.

You mean, FOUR outfielders, TEN pitchers, THREE infielders and a DH. Every team in the AL East and most of the MLB would take our pitching staff and their contracts in a heartbeat.

How many New York Yankees are better than the Rays? Ellsbury (.270 avg, 16 homers, $21mil salary), Sabathia (3-4 last year, $23mil salary, and Teixiera (.216 avg, 22 homers, $22mil salary)?? Or should the Rays have sprung for Upton and Crawford's $15-$20mil/year contracts?

Sternberg has done his part by providing post-season play four out of the last seven years. That's four more than the cheap fans in Tampa ever deserved.

Please don't post here again until you've read something on every player on the Rays roster. What you'll find is basic info like statistics, salaries, trade history, etc. Then compare it to whatever fantasy world team you think the Rays COULD have had this year. After you see how much better this one is, get back to me.

60-70 wins most likely - surely not more than the 78 wins they had last season as their roster has been depleted and their manager has never managed a single game at any level including Little League or girl's softball before getting the job w/ the Rays......Vegas odds makers say about 79 this season......

looks like the Tampa Lightning will have a higher attendance then the Rays this year. Once again the lightning will be in the top ten in home attendance higher then Boston and New York.!

This year, their are four AL East teams with Vegas over/unders ranging from 78.5 to 82.5, plus the Red Sox at 86.5. BucFan is the only person who could see that as a sign for the Rays to throw in the towel....in March.

The offense will improve over last year. There are zero signs indicating otherwise. Outfield defense and catching have been greatly improved. 3B and 1B stay the same, probably 2B too.

Strength at SS and length of DL time for the pitchers are the only concerns.

Try watching an actual game this season Buc. You might enjoy the increased speed, power, and OBP that has been ADDED to the Rays roster especially for you. Just don't cry when some of the best players get traded down the road for multiple young players. That will happened every year the MLB is in existence. Get used to it.
