SIX! Now mind you, this would NEVER happen in Trinity, LOL, Wesley Chapel or any of those places, now, would it?

Just about every house around the area has had a sinkhole claim. When ya don't get rain for weeks at a time and the ground water is pumped this is what can happen

Exactly! This only happens in the "those" areas, that would NEVER happen in one of those nice, shiny gated communities where they paid over $200,000 for granite countertops, would it?

It even happen to rich homes. Back behind westport there were 4 big and rich homes built behind a gate and all the homes are now empty and one has sinkhole damage. It can happen east of Tampa, or about anywhere, sinkholes don't just pick on rundown poor hoods like west Pasco.

The ground is getting heavy thanks to all the transplants. Loose some weight or move elsewhere or we'll ALL sink!

That's what I thought! It can happen to any home, in any area that's sinkhole prone. Which is why the title of the thread says "Do ya feel lucky?"

But, you know, funny thing about that, it always seems that the news features these old Port Richey/New Port Richey neighborhoods and trailer parks. I don't think I've EVER seen the news feature a sinkhole in one of these fancy, newer gated communities. If they have, I've missed it.

Then again, the news crews would have to get past the gates and maybe they can't, lol. And believe me, if they can't, they're not going to bother with the story. Somehow a reporter standing in front of concrete columns and wrought iron isn't as visually exciting as a few gaping holes with debris or even a car in them.

So, yeah, sinkholes don't just pick on poor rundown hoods, but the news does, lol.

I learned something interesting from the story, though. Apparently, if the property a house sits on develops a sinkhole, the filling-in process can exert a pressure that creates a sort of domino effect and sinkholes can open up on adjacent/nearby properties.

Even more interesting was the fact that in this case, the company filling in the hole at the one home has stopped work there and is now working on the nearby properties and filling them in, and then they'll be going back to the original home and finishing up.

Is there some ordinance or law about that? Meaning, if the work a crew is doing at one property causes sinkhole activity at the neighbor's property, the crew has to then fill in the neighbor's property?

Sigh. I'm tellin' ya. Truth of the matter is, much of Pasco should probably be nothing more than one vast nature preserve, or agriculture zone. It should never have been developed to the extent that it has been.

Anyway, there's another thread on this that I started when the documentary came out, but for the benefit of CD members who may be in the dark, here's link to the Buried Alive documentary on PBS. Lots of useful information:

Most all of west Pasco from Holiday to Hudson is all old run down 2bedroom homes that are rented out, i would say 90% is trash. There are a few nice homes here and there.
