I'm going to be visiting the Tampa Bay area this year. I had read this article some time ago:
Floridian: Electronic playground
which touted the electronic music scene there. I have heard of the Bonk festival and Sycom. Are they still active? What is the scene like now? Still active or moribund? I'm not talking about mindless dance music but ambient and IDM to the more avant-garde. Any sort of scene of this sort in the region?

Not familiar with those genre's.. but I enjoy the breakbeat genre's based out of the bay area.

Scene is dying, unfortunately.

Awesome band is WD-Han (myspace.com/wdhan) - Not electronica, but a rock band with a great beat.

That's funny.. never saw that article but I am/was friends with most of those guys. The scene is off and on.. I've grown too homebodied to get out much myself. I know there were some good national acts over at 'Sapphrie Social Club' in Orlando. In tampa the spots used to be The Orpheum/New World Brewery in ybor city, and maybe a few places in downtown st. pete.

Sorry I don't have more up to date info for you.

You might try to contact Jack Spatafora with Aestheticized (sp?) productions, he promotes a lot of good stuff. Google him I bet you can find an email, if it's not still something like
