Every watch ANY of the home improvement shows on HGTV.
...every see any carpeting??? Hard surfaces is what sells a home....good luck on resale of carpeted home. All potential buyers see is the cost in converting to hardwoods or tile.

Carpet...YUCK!!! Especially in a warm, humid climate.

I also see home improvement shows on HGTV and most of what little things they complain about, can be easily fixed themselves or bought by someone else.

Fireplaces in humid, warm Florida....YUCK!!!

Keep in mind once the houses down here hit 50 years old the insurance goes through the roof. The closer to resent building codes they are the lower your insurance premium. In some cases insurance will cost you more than a mortgage near the coast. Pay close attention to elevation.

Wait, what? My nephew has two homes in FL - over 50 years old (54 to be exact) and the insurance is very very very affordable - low.

I agree unless you are in a high velocity/flood zone or a home red flagged due to a previous sink hole the age of the house doesn't make insuring it prohibitive...unless it has a 50 year old roof...my son has a 1935 bungalow in Historic Kenwood and it is very affordable...he almost bought a repaired sinkhole home...when he looked into the insurance for that it was double what it should have been...

The kind of person that buys a home in Kenwood is someone who specifically loves the style of the old bungalows and maintenance issues is a given. We considered buying there as we love antiques and old homes but ended up in Safety Harbor because of the schools for our 6 year old. We love it here and although we live in a home built in the 80's our antiques look beautiful in it and we love the home. We have two fireplaces and use them in the winter when it gets into the 40's and 50's outside. Safety Harbor is an adorable town, we call it Florida's Mayberry. Local parades, art shows, 3rd Friday street fairs, etc. keep things interesting. Since you do not have children you have more options.
