I will be moving to the St Petes area in May and like the looks of Gulfport, or S. Pasedena areas, are these safe areas for a woman in her 40s, no kids. Also, wondering about South of 54th Ave S near where St Pete points to the gulf??? I know S. St Petes is considered the "hood" south of Centeral Ave, but is the whole area unsafe, crime ridden? I would love to get a cute little bugalow/cottage type house within walking distance to the water for less then $130K, but still want to be able to walk my dogs at night and not fear for break ins. Locals please advise me on this a little more on what you would think is safe for that price rage. Thank you.

54th st south is ok if you stay south of 28th ave south. The closer you are to 22nd ave south, the more "hood" it gets.

That tells you how it or miss the area is. You are always literally a block or 2 away from undesirables... and they know where the good houses to rob are

130K will only get you a small fixer upper in Historic Gulfport these days.

Here's a link to real estate listings in this area.
Historic Gulfport Homes | Gulfport MLS | Pinellas County, Florida There may be one or two in your range, but they are either on 22nd (heavy traffic) or 49th (not the best street).

It is very safe, I am 60 y/o walk every night, one block from water, brick streets. We travel a lot, sometimes for over a month at a time, never worry about break-ins.

As a single woman who loves to walk her dog, I would not live in Gulfport/South St Pete. I know there are people on this forum who live in Gulfport and love it. But, for me, it's too close to the nastiness. I have a friend that has a beautiful golf course front home in south St Pete. Every house in her cul-de-sac has been broken into at least once. Going to events in the evening with this friend forces me to drive through the hood coming and going. Everybody has their own opinion. I wouldn't be comfortable there.

I am a woman in my 40s, I live in Gulfport and walk my dog here (unaccompanied by the husband) every day. It seems great to me here!

IMO the best place to live is in northern Pinellas county. I like Safety Harbor, Dunedin, Oldsmar, Palm Harbor, East Lake. I'm looking for a condo now in Safety Harbor. They sell in days after hitting the market. If you want to stay in St Pete, I would go further west and live on one of the beaches. Maybe Madeira or Treasure Island. They have cute low rise condos or small houses.

Sorry, I just saw you want to stay under $130k. The beaches are out I believe. But maybe on Treasure Island causeway.

I don't know if the OP is still following the post or has made a decision. I wanted to share that I just signed a contract on a little condo in Safety Harbor. Although prices have gone up, I managed to get it for $117,500. 2/1 with a tiny back yard for my dog within walking distance of Phillippe Park and downtown. I found my little piece of paradise. I hope the OP does too.
