Hi everyone! I will be driving from CT to Florida, and staying in Port Richey for a few days in late January.

While I am Florida, I would like to spend at least one day at a nice beach, just enjoying the ocean Do you have any suggestions? Also, any suggestions of other things I could do in that area in terms of sight seeing or activities? I'm also going to be spending one day in Tampa, though not sure if I'll stay in Tampa for a night or get a hotel in Port Richey and drive back and forth.

Thank you!

Closes good beach is Clearwater. Honeymoon Island is good, as is Anaclote Key, but that is only boat access. St. Pete's has great beaches on the Gulf side.

Clearwater Marine Aquarium to see Winter, the dolphin that was in the movie Dolphin's Tale. Tarpon Springs for a Greek atmosphere.

Closest one I know of a dog beach is honeymoon island. There's also fort Desoto but I haven't been there yet. A great dog park is on enterprise in Clearwater. There's also a smaller but nice dog park in tarpon

For beaches theres the tiny Green Key Beach
Anclote River Beach
Fred Howard Park Beach
Honeymoon Island
Caledesi Park.
For a large beach Clearwater would be your best bet.
As for what to do in NPR?......
Waterside table at Hooters? nice view=

Not to confuse the OP it's Fred Howard Park Beach

To the OP, Howard and Honeymoon have $5 entry fees but you can hang out right before Honeymoon on the causeway for free and get lunch at Frenchy's if you want. Just park vehicle right on the beach.

As Jambo said Clearwater is nice and can get crowded. Another option is John's Pass area but can also get crowded. Both these are Touristy.
