Guess it depends on the pital the nurse works at. I would fire anyone that got a DUI that worked for me. I think it should be death if a drunk caused a death.

What do you thing the chances are of her having to do some jail time? She has a lawyer and will plead not guilty.
Hope it doesn't happen again but if it does she must now that she is to NEVER blow and to NEVER submit to roadside tests. Just tell her to say NO and to try to stand in view of the police cruisers camera the whole time standing straight and sober.
And tell her to not even talk to the police, remain silent. Let the police try and build there own case, don't build it for them.

Yep, always lawyer up. Always comply with the police but odds are you are not talking your way out of anything so don't say anything.

The OP isn't asking anyone what to say.
He's asking if his g.f. has any chance of doing jail time for her 1st DUI.

What is it a lawyer does to get charges dropped that a defendant can't do themselves without paying for a lawyer?

Everyone makes mistakes occasionally.
I know several people who have been found guilty of DUI and they're the most trustworthy and honest people you could ever hope to meet.
No-one deserves two punishments for the same crime which taking away their livelihood would do.

She had been working for the hospital for....years? She had a proven track record with them.. She was also working in a specialty field. In addition (we don't know) she may be involved in the impaired nurses program, which requires counseling, random drug/alcohol checks, etc..) The hospital is protecting itself, while maintaining a valuable asset.

. The brand new nurse with a DUI, is a huge red flag for employers...

No, it's not fair. But it is the equivalent of being on your best behavior during your probation period.

People who willfully break the law, who jeopardize the lives of everyone in their path....those are NOT trustworthy nor honest people. They are irresponsible and dangerous people. Not to mention, stupid beyond belief.
