If given the choice, would you live in Seminole Heights in Tampa or in Uptown or Old Northeast St. Pete? We are looking for a neighborhood that is walkable and has a hip, eclectic vibe and is good for families with young children. We're looking for a single family home with a garage apartment that is less than $600K and is walking distance to parks and at least a few restaurant. My concern about Northeast St. Pete is that it might be too stuffy, and Seminole Heights seems surrounded by industrial areas with not a lot of room to expand or grow in terms of retail, restaurants, bars, etc. Which area has more potential? I know the schools are bad in both areas.

My husband will be working in the Carrillon Pkwy area of St. Pete, and I'll be working right over the bridge in Tampa on West Kennedy Blvd., so one of us will have to commute either way. We would like to buy this Spring.

Old Northeast is a beautiful neighborhood in St. Petersburg. There are several homes in that neighborhood with garage apartments. You're walking distance to North Shore Park which has a nice community pool and is on Tampa Bay, with a great view.
It is one of the oldest, most sought after neighborhoods in St. Petersburg. It is also right near downtown and close to Beach Drive (with restaurants and bars).

If you intend to have kids who go to a good school, then none of those places.

Schools in St. Pete are notoriously bad, schools in Seminole Heights are worse.

This is undisputable facts.

If your husband is working in Carrilon, why dont you live in Safety Harbor. Schools are MUCH better there, and it's an easy commute to Carrilon. If you will be working in Westshore, that's an easy commute too.

Have to agree with this. Safety Harbor would be an EXCELLENT choice on all counts. The others, not so much.

I would recommend the neighborhoods in North St Petersburg north of 9th Street N, south of 38th Street N and between 1st Ave n and 16th Ave N. Old NE may be difficult to stay within your budget but Crescent Lake, Woodlawn, Euclid St Paul's will have everything you requested within your price point. 4th Street N south of 22nd Ave is increasing walkable (the city has really pushing urbanism in that stretch). I am President of Euclid St Paul's Neighborhood, we are really eclectic and pretty active with neighborhood events. Euclid - St. Paul's Neighborhood Association Check us out and give us a try (west of 9th Street N (MLK))
