I'm moving to St. Pete in April and will be 9 months pregnant at the time. How are the mosquitoes in April? When do they start to get bad?

The CDC expects the Zika virus to spread to Florida this spring/summer, so I'm slightly worried. I'm planning to live in an urban area and will be careful, but I don't want to be confined to my house for a month, either.

Whether they're bad or not depends much more on where you'll be versus the region or time of year. If you're going to be living in a home near a drainage canal, retention pond or any other non-moving water, the mosquitoes could be bad if it's not an area the city treats frequently. Regardless, they're at their worst at dusk, so if you're that concerned, avoiding being outside for an hour or two per day is probably all you'd need to worry about.

Dont worry they have the situation well under control=

When warranted, truck-mounted foggers or hand-foggers are used to target adult mosquitoes. Pinellas County uses pyrethroid-based adulticides, synthetic versions of a natural insecticide produced by chrysanthemums that have very low mammalian toxicity

What could possibly go wrong.

I live in urban St.Pete and never have had a mosquito problem near my house. Just make sure there is no standing water left around your yard. Agreed that they are worst at dusk!

We're moving for my husband's job and I'll be working remotely, so the decision has been made. I'm actually moving in March now that I know I can continue working with my company. The plan is to avoid walking in grassy or woody areas and of course avoid standing water. If I get a bite when I'm out somewhere, I'll just leave immediately. Unfortunately the type of mosquitoes responsible for spreading Zika in the US bite all day long, so there is no benefit to just staying in at dusk. Luckily the baby will be born in late April or early May, before true mosquito season.

I initially misread that as "truck-mounted froggers," and imagined men carting around truckloads of frogs to mosquito-infested areas, which seems like a much better solution to the problem. I should really run for mayor.
