Temporary Living
Can anyone give some advice on the extended living motels in the area? I am limited on funds, so I will be looking to stay in the not so nice, type of setting. I am moving to Fl without a job and need to save as much money, whereever possible until I get a job and save up for a real apartment. Thanks

Maybe you could try craigslist and see if you could find a room for rent in a nicer area for a little while

Bmoore75 please try to get some type of job lined up before you come dont put yourself in an unpleasant situation b/c trust me ohio's "not so nice" is better than florida's "not so nice". The cost of living is higher in fl with less pay plus the job market is very tough right now. I had friends move here some years ago from Ohio and 3 months later they were back home.

Don't even consider this as a woman alone. If you wait untl after mid-April,you can probably find a tiny seasonal rental cheaper in one of the beach communities that will be more decent than any of these short term places. We were looking for a long term rental in Treasure Island in Aug. and saw a really cute but tiny place for $650. She wanted a long term rental but you could probably find something in the paper http://www.sptimes.com for that much. that's 175/week and the transitional places or even a safe room won't be cheaper. The place was too small for a couple but if you're coming alone for a few months it would be fine. You could uhaul some of your furniture down to make do.
Still aft all that, I agree that you shouldn't come without a job but that's almost impossible outside the corporate world.

I am not coming down there alone. My husband will be with me. To be real honest, I don't mind roughing it for a little while, until we can get on our feet. My husband is employed through a temp agency here in Ohio called Aerotek. he has been with the agency, doing manufacturing work, for 2 years. Aerotek is nation wide. There are 2 locations in Pinellas county. He may be able to transfer (at our expense) to a position in Pinellas county through Aerotek.

That is good
on all counts. just be really careful if you land in one of those long term stay places. Yes, you're right he should try to get Aerotek to send his paperwork down here. That's how most temp services do it and it's one of the advantages of working for them. If you get here and they don't have any jobs right then, have him go to Labor Ready or Labor Finders about 5-6AM. They hire out day labor. Some of the positions aren't so bad and he'll get paid that day. He can work when he doesn't have an interview or something like that and bring in some food/gas money while looking for that perm. spot.

Just curious, why a long term place?? Those don' t have the greatest security as many of them are independently owned; You can rent in an apartment for a decent price and not have to risk being in a dangerous area. The longer you sign a lease for the cheaper it is. .. I have to agree, no matter what field you are in it's going to be tough to find work. I can suggest waitressing though, you can make some good pocket cash if you work enough hours. Especially if you go to a decent tourist place. I would line up something immediately so you are somewhat secure!

You may have to rent an apartment and sleep on an air mattress, but it will be cheaper than extended stay properties. Leasing in Florida for any time less than 7 months is really expensive. Tourism is a huge income producer here.

27yr male from up north, i tried craigslist for sharing and ive been here in florida 5 months, still on the airbed, and im saving big $$$ compared to being on my own... i really dont know many people yet, and i barely have much stuff, so it works out great for me, and eventually if i decide to stay here in tampa, i will get my own place. no lease is another good reason to do the sharing thing, plus everywhere wants you to have ref. and job history to get your own place...
