Hire a reputable contractor!!! And if you decide not to and to go with a contractor that you've never heard of before to save a few bucks because he's cheaper, all you need to do to avoid a lien being placed on your property is to have the contractor fill out a "lien waiver" before you sign his contract (duh). Its really not that difficult.

In this poor lady's case, I can't think of ANY roofing supply companies that don't give a "notice to owner" once materials are delivered to job-site. Has anyone here ever had there shingles replaced without receiving one?
They legally have to file a NTO within 45 days of material delivery in Florida to be able to exercise lien rights later. It's not an option.
