Hi y'all!
I'm considering dragging my kiddos with me on a move to Tampa in a year or two. However, I am wondering about the schools in Tampa.
Currently, my son is a freshman on the battery for his marching band, is enrolled in both the robotic and science magnets in the district, and is in all pre-AP and AP courses. He loves all of it. My daughter is a 6th grader and is graduating from the elementary gifted and talented program that is in-house at her school and entering the visual arts magnet with some pre-AP courses for the next year. She loves her friends.
They are not getting the best education available, but they are getting what I believe is pretty awesome for public school. Conversely, my Tampanian bf is moving his high-scoring test-taker 2nd grader next year from the school he's at to another area school because the current environment is lacking.
Does anyone have any helpful information regarding education in the area or can someone direct me to an information source?
Oh, we would be living in Town & Country.
T.I.A.!

Town & Country?

Better send your kids to private school, or pick a better neighborhood.

Yeah, how committed are you to moving to Town & Compton? Not only are the schools not great, the area itself has gone downhill. Not to mention all the aircraft flyover noise.

Both your kids are in talented programs and they love it. They have friends and are happy where they are. Your lead sentence says you are considering 'dragging' them to Tampa.

Why on earth would you risk your kids' happiness and education by moving them??

Well-adjusted teens and pre-teens are pretty rare and if they are doing well, why move?

Thanks y'all!
Haha! Yeah... BF's house is in Town & Country. It's a nice house with room for all of us (he has a kiddo too). He's called the area Town & Compton too lol. Anyway, he'll likely live out his days in that house.

To be fair, I would only move the kids if they were willing to go, I just get colorful when writing. We are all going out there next month, (their first time, I've been going for two years) to see how things go. And who knows, since I will be sharing the cost of living with someone, maybe I'll be able to afford private.
The move has always been something that I thought I would wait for graduation for. And a move in a couple of years is not set in stone, but I want to try to see if I can make it work because what if I can? If I don't try, the answer is definitely no. I don't think I am making the decision capriciously.

I really appreciate the input!

I worked at a school in Town & Compton. I would not send my kids there under any circumstances.

T&C is strange in that there are some really nice areas, and other not so nice areas. Unfortunately, the not so nice areas are larger and as a result the schools are, well, not so nice.

Stay where you are and let your kids finish there. I wouldn't bring them here, for sure.

Hi! I appreciate your perspective, but you were very vague. Can you expound at all?
