From Northn Idaho, Now Redding CA... I didn't realize how deserted it would be here. Even at the beaches, on the lakes, downtown (even on new years weekend) this town is dead!
I never thought a town could get so depressing. My old town Coeur d Alene ID beach/downtown/lake was 5 times more busy and has 1/3 the population of Reddin. I also liked CDA because Spokane was 30 minutes out if I wanted to see a concert or shop etc. I didn't like CDA because of snow.. and black skys for week on end

Most people I talk to here say they dont go downtown because they are scared of the tweekers, not enough places within walking distance, no place worth going too etc.

I guess I need a place a lot less red neck, and more city ish.. with some outdoorsie beach scene? Vollyballs cool!

Ive always felt so out of place in Idaho and... now here.. I can't grow a beard , I wear shirts with palm trees on them ( not on purpose, it just happens, ) I wear sandals ( no socks ) daily ( no matter the weather, ) I dont "camo" anything I own ( including vehicles, and underwear. )

I was down in the Santa Barbara/Ventura about 10 years ago for a couple weeks here and there and loved it!

My deal is I dont want another place thats gorgeous with no one or nothing going on around me.

I was thinking San Diego but, it seems like it would be too much, and I am in the service industry so I want my commute to 4 houses a day kept to a minimum.

And now I just looked at google maps walk on the beaches and pier and saw hardly a soul...?
Only one restaurant on the pier? Really?
Any restaurants on the sand?

Or should I look at St Pete/Tampa FL area again?

You are not going to find any shortage of people in Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater. Tampa Bay is one of the most congested areas of Florida. If you can deal with 6-7 months of weather hell (heat, humidity, mosquitoes), then you may love it here. COS is cheap, jobs are somewhat easy to find again, and even with low wages, you can be fairly comfortable here. For the most part people are friendly and welcoming. There are alot of trashy "hillbilly" types here but they are general confined to a few areas. I don't like it here and I'm leaving but you may like it. Definitely cheaper than CA.

Love the heat so thats good! Plus I like wearing polyester and nylon anyways.
Anything is better than freezing...
Bugs... thats easy for me, Im a fragrance head and they dont like the builders, natural oils, and of course the Limonene, so they stay away from me for the most part.

Glad to here the people seem friendly and welcoming, I've always got along with people from NY ( love the hustle in their blood ) and the Carolina's ( amazingly gracious folk ) so I should be good to go I guess.

Everyone I've met from FL that has moved to Cali is planning on headed back. I hear this: Cheap housing, less Govt pick pocketing, ocean's warmer.

Thanks for the reply

Where you headed too?

You can be on the beach almost year round here. Alot of people consider this paradise for good reason, especially if coming from colder climates. Personally I dislike the heat, humidity, and bugs. It's crowded here, lots of rude and entitled people but I can't imagine it's worse than CA. This is not the same Florida I grew up in and I'm over it. I have worked in sub-freezing climates however, and totally understand what brings so many people here. There area alot of people here from NY and OH. Contrary to what every says, there are quite a few locals here, myself included. State/local governments are easy to get along with for the most part, taxes are decent. I'm headed to WA state myself, it's more what I'm looking for in terms of everything.

No where is perfect to live...I live south of TPA and in CA as well....for year round weather I still prefer San Diego, but it's hard to beat The TPA area - south to Naples

Tampa Bay might be a good fit for you. The weather is usually "beach weather" although this past winter it was pretty cold for about two months. I find people here to be much friendlier than in Southern California, where I also lived for several years. GoodBeer raises some good points because no place is perfect, so you should visit before you decide to move here. Consider St Petersburg. There is always something going on. For me, St Petersburg is the best place that I have lived, and I have lived in lots of really cool places.
