One of our sons is considering a job in Lakeland. He likes its location; convenient to Tampa and its offerings and Orlando and its offerings. We've been through the the area a number of times over the years on vacations and it seems to be nice, at least where we've been. Lakes, parks, etc. But I've seen from time to time a number of bad post one CD of Lakeland's crime. I am aware that all cities have their crime (especially growing areas). Some people have an ax to grind and a negative, unfair attitude of an area to start with, so it's hard to trust that objective. Too, using common sense and knowing where to stay out of negates the overwhelming majority of crime problems from a personal standpoint nearly anywhere someone lives. I lived in another suburban city here in the Charlotte area at one time for 13 years. We always heard bad things about the city, stereotypes and such. We never had a problem at all in terms of crime. Ever! And it was actually a good place to live. I was wondering if there were any areas of the north and west part of Lakeland within 5-10 minutes of I-4 that are nice and relatively safe? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I'll echo that the south side of Lakeland is pretty nice. We have friends who live there.
