Young family (30's with 4 kids 7 and under) relocating to Citrus County area from Wilmington, North Carolina (the beach).

Looking for any info on where we should look for housing, do's and don'ts, etc, etc.

Job will be in Homosassa Springs. I don't mind a 30 minute or so commute if it means being happier where we live.

Looking for good schools, Elementary most important as this point. Do not necessarily need to be in a neighborhood community (especially if mostly retired). Would prefer either rural setting with some land or neighborhood with other young families.

We are outdoors people, love the beach, boating, fishing, hunting, etc.

Thanks for any help!

Pretty rural area with minimal infrastructure and lots of retirees. Tax base is stressed due to the major employer, Duke Energy's nuke plant, closing down.

Plenty of land, so you should be able to find a large parcel if that's what you want. Far enough away from the Tampa area so property values won't be outrageous.

Can't speak to the quality of schools there, but they are probably below the ratings of the schools in larger metropolitan areas.

There are plenty of areas in Citrus County that you could call home. My niece attended Citrus Springs Middle School and in my opinion did very well there. Here is the website to check out schools in the area.

GreatSchools.org Search: citrus springs fl, 1-4

The nature coast is the place to be if you love the outdoors. There are plenty of places to go hiking, fishing, boating, and horseback riding. Rentals are hard to come by in the area. Seems like they don't stay on the market to long. If you are looking to purchase a place then you can get a decent house on a nice lot around the $150k range. Its a little tougher to find neighborhoods with younger families. Most of the area is retirees but I am sure there are some places out there. Hope this helps. Good Luck!
