Need Info on Safety Harbor Please...
HI! I'm getting a job lined up in Safety Harbor. This is a huge leap of faith as I can't find much info on the net re: what the town has to offer (outside of the city website). I'm writing from Vancouver, Canada (above Seattle, Washington)...
Can you give me any details re: good areas to buy a home in, tax, crime, schools, churches...
Any feedback on that big church called Harborside Christian??
Thanks in advance for your valuable feedback...

Hi VanCity Baby,
You will love it down here but it is nothing like Vancouver. I lived in West Vancouver 20 years ago and loved it but came back south to get away from the rain and the ex.
Safety Harbor is a very small, quaint town that is located in the northern part of Pinellas. It has the Safety Harbor Spa, restaurants, and is located right on the bay. There are plenty of homes available in the vicinity and you shouldn't have a hard time finding a place you like. Pinellas Schools are changing from a choice based system to a neighborhood zoned system and the best advice I can give you is to go on their website and take a look at everything. Pinellas County Schools
Taxes will be based on the millage rate of where you buy and each area is different but you are looking at an average of .22 of the cost of the home...that is a little on the high side but at least you won't have sticker shock when you get your bill that way. Safety Harbor is close to Clearwater, Dunedin, Palm Harbor, and any of those places would be a good choice. Insurance is a different ballgame all together and depends on where you decide to buy, ie: flood zone, how close to the water, if there are sinkholes in the area, if the house is new or older, wood or concrete, etc....
Do you have an area & price in mind? It may help the me & the other forum members to narrow things down for you a bit
I am not sure about the church but I do know it is BIG!!!! I am sure someone will be able to help you w/ the church and more info on that.
Welcome to Florida and enjoy our sunshine!!!

Safety Harbor is very quaint, and small. It actually feels remote because it's so different than most other parts of town. However, it is very accessible and in a convenient location. I love it there. Be sure to check out Hildegaard's Beer Garden Art House.
I would try to live in the very near vicinity of your job, which shouldn't be a problem. It's more residential than commercial in Safety Harbor.

you will probably want private school. public has removed choice (which was a nightmare) but in my opinion not a quality education regardless of choice. Safety harbor is a nice area with alot near it.

Safety Harbor is bordered on the north by Palm Harbor and to the west by the Countryside area of Clearwater, on the east by Tampa Bay and on the south by the Bay as well.
Safety Harbor is charming as my neighbors above have pointed out, but in the event that you choose to look a bit farther afield you may find Palm Harbor and the Countryside area with much to offer.
As for private schools (I don't personally think the public system is that bad through middle school but the high schools leave a little to be desired) there's Safety Harbor Montessori which is well acclaimed but has a waiting list. You can find other private schools on line at Pinellas County Private Schools
I wouldn't try to make the trek to St. Pete from Safety Harbor for schools. I think you'd regret the stress and time spent in traffic. Just a personal call of course. But I made the trek from Tarpon to Largo for three years and was a wreck every day trying to get everyone out the door on time both directions.
Welcome to the area. Enjoy Safety Harbor.
