Not sure why people want light rail. Its such an old technology. We will have self-driving cars in 10-15 years. Wont need light rail. This was a relatively inexpensive project to test out. People who are complaining that this money could be spent on sewers are wrong. The city spent $350,000 on the ferry project. In contrast, the city has allocated $100,000,000 for sewers over the next 5 years. Do you really think another $350,000 would be a game changer? No. Everyone complains no matter what happens. Traffic on the bridges suck, so the city is trying to think of something that will help alleviate the problem. Not fix it. This is a band-aid, not a solution.

Take a ride on this doomed-to-fail ferry....but keep an eye out for floating turds, courtesy of St. Pete.
You're wrong. St Pete spent $350,000 on this, not millions. Also, the city dumped 151M GALLONS, not tons. 90% of this was rain water. It wasn't all untreated sweage. I do agree this is a big problem though and I'm glad the city is allocating $100,000,000 over the next 5 years to fix this. In reality, this was a problem WAY before Kriseman came into office in 2014. He is just as much to blame as our past mayors and council members.

I would tend to agree somewhat, but if we have self driving cars won't the number of cars continue to increase, or even if it remains static, the congestion would still be the same?

If light rail is old, what is new? It can't be self driving cars. What will self driving cars do for congestion that exists?

Does the ferry include park and ride lots on both ends?

Light rail vs. self driving cars? Light rail wins any day.

I think it is a wise trial. Inexpensive and they get to test the response.

I am certainly no fan of the current governor, but the problem with accepting money for certain projects is that it leads to a long term expenditure requirement upon state and/or local governments. It's not just free money. It's "some" money now, if you commit to spending much, much, much more than what you get over the years.

It's not a simple "yes, give me the cash" deal.

Can't build and test light rail for $350,000. That's the issue. I agree with limited light rail in key target areas, but even that will be expense and permanent.
