Join the club. I've lived here for 11yrs and the pay will never match the cost of living. Not to mention, I've been working at the same company for 9yrs and still making under $40k, not because I did not exceed in the various positions they placed me in. But because of some salary cap, that has yet to be full revealed to me. I'm just trying to finish school so I can move to a state were the wages are decent.

Anyone who did their research on the area would know that Tampa has low wages. All I can say is, you should've done your research.

I'm originally from Atlanta and plan to return ASAP. The only thing holding me here is school and due to the residency requirements, I cannot enroll in college in Georgia unless I've lived there for a year. Not to mention, I only have one semester left after this one so I'm just trying to suck it up for now.

Yup! I can only comment on computer engineering (IT). Way back when, I wanted to follow my parents to Sarasota, but the pay for computer engineers there was pitiful. So I ended up in Tampa, with an international company that paid nationwide wages. There were downsides to being a techie in Tampa, as job movement was far inferior to areas in California or Boston.

Today, you've got telecommuting, which IMO also needs access to the home office. That's where our kickass airport comes in play. Sure air travel kinda sucks compared with pre-9/11 but with the pending non-stop flights to SFO, I think it will make for a pretty good life if you can remotely work for companies like Salesforce.
