Did anyone else see the news report about Neal Communites building/selling homes in Parrish for around $150? Since Im interested in Parrish this concerned me a little and was hoping for some input from people in that area.. Is anyone concerned that this is going to attract the wrong type of people and is going to be bad for the community? Sometimes when homes become soo cheap, they attract a lower class of people (NOT ALWAYS, but I think you know where Im headed).. Any input?

Default Neal

New FLGal,

You are right to be concerned about it. I did looked over the article and, if you notice the pictures, the homes are very cheap in a number of ways.

Also remember in your house search, not to buy a frame house. Your insurance will be outrageous, if you can even get it.

However, Neal Communities has to do something to sell what they have. They are not doing it to "provide affordable housing". What a bunch of hogwash. This is why you need to be careful when looking around. I really like the Parrish area, but would not live in Lexington, Aberdeen or Forest Creek. But, that's me. I don't like living so close that you hear your neighbor's toilet flush.

We'll have to wait and see how this works out.

I agree, and thanks. With all this in mind though, are you concerned that these cheaper homes are going to bring in a lower class of people?

Possible. However, you could also look at it from the point of view that at least teachers, firemen and police will be able to easily afford the homes!

We are interested in buying--we are 59 just wanting to retire early. We used to live in Orlando 10 years ago and want to return to Florida but near Tampa/Sarasota. I just hope the communtiy attracts peole like us, and teachers, fireman, and police.
We are flying back in a few weeks to have a look for ourselves!
