I am in the process of moving to the Tampa area. I am looking for a place where the crime rate is low. I am a single, middle aged female, who is still very active. Therefore I would like someplace that has various things to do, and able to meet and make friends. I am not only interested in Tampa, but also surrounding areas. Such as Clearwater, St Pete, Ocala, Pinellas Park, etc. These are all places that have been mentioned to me, however I am not familiar with this area. Help?? Please!! I will be looking to rent, most likely an apartment.

Smile St Pete

definitely. Of those mentioned. Pinellas Park and Clearwater have some iffy areas and not much going on. You might like Dunedin too if transportation isn't an issue.
What specifically do you enjoy? What is your budget and where are you coming from?
The key to meeting people in a new area at our age is to get out and do stuff in some organized fashion. Like volunteer or join groups that share your interests like the Dunedin Fine Arts Center if you like art. They have some excellent classes and not just for the young.
I'm not sure Tampa has a lot to offer the active "senior." If you move to So. Tampa, it's a younger crowd and the rest of the nicer areas are very suburban and family oriented. Downtown St. Pete gets my vote. Or Dunedin or one of the beach communities because they're close to the attractions of St. Pete.

I suggest you look in NORTH PINELLAS Area!!! Dunedin is lovely has still that "small town" flair with it's Main Street that is filled with Great Restaurants... same thing with Safety Harbor or downtown Palm Harbor... and omg not to mention Tarpon Springs if you love greek food. Let me know if you have anymore questions

we're moving there too. try between st pete and tampa, more in the largo area - but be careful, some things on east bay dr are slightly scary. seminole is between largo and st pete, and is pretty calm. try that.
