Farm bureau was about $400 more for 6 months for us.

Where would one even start to take on the insurance costs? Senator? Representatives? It's a shame that I do the right thing and have coverage and pay for all those who don't.

I also never really know which limits and liabilities and stacked or I stacked or PIP or medical payments....it's all very overwhelming and I feel like there's no honest salesman out there telling us what coverage we really need vs which is not really all that necessary to have.

I'm not trying to whine- it's just ridiculous that's all!!

Could it be that these may be some of the most stolen cars? Hondas are very popular for thieves. I know your model year isn't on the list but it could possibly be in the top 25 or 50.

That seems pretty high. I was to comment about the Civic being the most stolen car but the previous poster had it.

We have two cars that we have "full" coverage with low deductible ($250), and pay about $800 with progressive for six month. This is after a $200 or so six-month one-time pay discount, including rental car for 10 days. I am with progressive for over 10 years and they have been so good to us. I check every six-month if somebody could beat them, but no one so far. We have a couple of no-fault accident with people with no insurance and we used our insurance to fix and our premium did not increase a penny. This is with one sport car. The sport car is manual and I think they consider that a safety feature as most of the thieves are too lazy to learn a manual shift car

The best rates I've gotten has been from Geico or AAA for auto insurance here. AAA is a little bit cheaper but you have to pay the for the whole year in one payment which can be a heavy hit. I have an 05 truck and 06 minivan and it's around $1600/yr. Shopped around and got crazy quotes up to $3500/yr for same coverage with other companies.
Safeco burned me once when I made a claim on home ins in Texas so I stay away from them now.

High cost of auto insurance is just a cost of doing business living here along with high home insurance. If ya gonna fix insurance, start with health insurance. Don't even get me started there.

Uninsured motorists, failure to enforce traffic laws, hurricanes, floods - can't blame my insurance co - they're playing the odds to protect their bottom line....don't like it, leave, I guess.....that's what USAA told a family member recently and he took them up on it an left.

If uninsured and/or unlicensed motorists were locked up and had their vehicles confiscated, the impact would be great.

Otherwise, it's cheaper to drive without insurance and possibly pay a fine once every few years if that unlucky.

Jail, and confiscation.

it's a state law that requires no-fault insurance, right? and state lawmakers have influence on our enforcement of traffic laws, texting while driving laws, etc.

How Much Car Insurance Do You Need? - Personal Finance - WSJ.com

A handful of states require car owners to carry no-fault insurance, policies that pay out no matter which driver is at fault in an accident and limit your ability to sue other drivers.

Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Utah and Puerto Rico requires car owners to carry this protection, though the rules around how these policies work vary by state. These policies tend to be expensive, so be sure to shop around for the best deal if you live in a no-fault state.
