Grant Gilmore claims it will be an amazing night. I trust him! If not, the downtowner is still free, the streetcars are free, and a lot of these are indoor events. I look forward to seeing you there!

Did you see this week Vinik is completely demolishing Channelside and putting in a waterfront park? You must be angry as Channelside was such a hopping place, wasn't it?

He's not destroying the whole project, from what I understand, he's demolishing the, mostly empty, part that's blocking the view of the river.

As far as it being a "hopping" place, it's been pretty dead since it's inception. I have faith that Vinik will be able to turn the area into something special. And the waterfront park was part of the original plan.

Yeah, I had visited Channelside while we spent the night the day before a cruise in Tampa several years ago. It wasn't very "hopping" then. But visited there a few months ago after walking the River Walk and it was looking very disappointing, so much that it's current condition would turn people off from checking it out. Opening up the view to the waterfront may make this more appealing and also not make the vacancy look like a vagrant hangout.

Artist rendition in this article makes it look pretty updated looking: Port Tampa Bay approves demolition of part of Channelside Bay Plaza

However it definitely is scaled down from what was originally envisioned in September, so who knows how much more the project may get scaled before it's completed.
