Hi, I moved recently from NJ to FL and currently staying with family in Haines City. I am trying to decide where to rent a house. Rent is high in nice areas of Orlando so I have been researching the areas of clermont, kissimmee and Davenport but am thinking of checking out the Tampa Bay or St Pete Area instead. I work remotely so am flexible. My gf worked in retail management previously and will be looking for a new job. Our budget is about 1,600 a month but can go up to 1,800. I want to rent a house not an apt. What are some safe nice neighborhoods/towns to check out in our budget?

Your choices will be as limited in Tampa as they are in Orlando, probably even more so. Our rental market is absolutely crazy, and is considered one of the highest in the country right now.

You're better off looking in the more rural areas around you.

Don't know if your budget fits your needs. But I would suggest reaching out to a Realtor (they do rentals too), tell them what you are looking for and let them do the lifting for you. Won't cost you anything and a good Realtor should know the area and help you find what you are looking for. Or use Zillow, find rental homes that meet your budget and needs and then do research on those areas.

Thanks, yes I am using zillow. Things always look nice online though so I am just looking for info on what areas to drive around in to take a look and what areas to avoid. I see things in my budget all over just don't know where to start. I see things in riverview, Brandon, Ruskin, apollo beach, how are these areas? Is one better then the other? What about in s Tampa or st Pete itself? Areas to look or avoid? What is considered s Tampa area?

Most of the retail or good retail malls and big stores in Tampa are around the Westshore District. Which is near the International Airport. Maybe try Carrolwood or West Chase, but the neighborhoods you mentioned are suburbs and your girlfriend may have to commute far for retail jobs unless she lands something at the Brandon Mall area.

It helps to read the OP before responding.

Consider Bloomingdale Riverview. Nice community, not far from interstate access. There are a lot of nice communities in Valrico (Buckhorn, for instance) that I think you can get a place w/ that budget.

I live in Bloomingdale, and I can say that unless they're looking in Bloomingdale West in one of the older neighborhoods they're not going to find anything in that price range. Right now in my neighborhood the bottom end of the rental market is starting to close in on $2000/month, and places are going under contract almost as soon as the previous renters clear out.

I used Zillow.... it provides a few homes in the 1,500-1,800 range around the Bloomingdale GC.
