Smile Dont' know much about the BAy beaches near Safety Harbor, oldsmar

but if you want the Gulf you can go that direction and continue to Honeymoon Island, $5 per car, off of Dunedin. Or you could go down I-75 to the Bradenton Beaches, like Ana Maria. They aren't that friendly to day-trippers however. Limited parking etc.
If you want the BEST beach, and actually the easiest overall drive, get on I-275 and come over to Pinellas county. You can then stay on it all the way to Ft. DeSoto which is a county park and still very cheap, about $0.85, to access. They have a great infrastructure for day-trippers and the beach is beautiful and unspoiled. Depending on how you get to I-275 from your part of TT it really isn't a bad trip. We did it when we lived on Fletcher and 56th.

"Closest" isn't the best. I think the closest is Ben Davis Beach (definitely not he best).

Cute kids, but not my family. Just the only decent picture of Ben Davis Beach that google would provide.

Actually, twenty years ago, used to go to Ben Davis all the time - too lazy to drive all the way to Clearwater.
