Like the OP said Piquant makes them, they are good, Dough next to Datz also makes them although Piquants are better IMO, which is odd because I am a big Datz/Dough supporter. BTW what is considered North Tampa, when I think of North of Tampa I think New Tampa, Temple Terrace I guess geographically speaking.

I believe Datz on MacDill started selling cronuts a couple weeks ago.

EDIT: Someone beat me to it.

I should clarify, I have nothing against Piquants in Hyde Park, but the last 2 times I tried to get some, they did not have any.
And even with a pre-order they did not have any for me. It's too far to drive at the off-chance they will have them.

I'm curious, how did they not have any for you if you pre-ordered? I've pre-ordered from Piquant and they had a box waiting for me with my name on it when I arrived. They even asked for my credit card number over the phone and I think this is standard.

The demand for those things is pretty crazy. There's usually a few people outside waiting in the morning for them to open, and they sell out quick. But from my own experience and what I've heard from others, they've never had a problem filling any pre-order they commit to.

...and damn, those things are tasty. You can't get a better croissant donut in the Tampa Bay than the ones at Piquant.

I pre-paid for a ½ dozen when they did not have any the first time I went there. The next day I was pulling into the parking spot across the street and they called me to let me know they had problems with the baking and they will not have any today. It happens, but I just did not feel like driving there for a third time.

Anyway, I got a dozen from dough (next to Datz) this morning, and they are really really good.

I split north and south Tampa by I-275, I consider anything past USF into the NE direction New Tampa.

Perhaps this news story from Toronto is of interest to those that want a Cronut.

CNE Food Poisoning Linked To Cronut Burger's Maple Bacon Jam

Short version. A food stand at the Canadian National Exhibition, that was selling a Cronut concoction, was shut down, last week, by the Toronto Public Health Board, after 150 people got food poisoning from eating them. After lab tests, the maple and bacon jam on top of the item, was found to be full of bacteria.
The stand "Epic Burgers " has re-opened, but is not selling that item any more.

Be careful.

Jim B

Toronto.
