Non-Franchise Coffee Places?
Is it me, or does Tampa not have any local-owned, non-franchise coffee/dessert joints in town?
Sacred Grounds on Fowler, but thats about it as far as I can find.
Any recommendations?

Off the top of my head..these are my fav independent coffee/dessert places in Tampa:
Ja-Vaz, La Casa Dolce, Indigo(although there are two or three now), The Junction, Tre-Amici, La Creperia, Pane Rustica
In St Pete: Globe Coffee Lounge.
If you look at creativeloafing.com for tampa and the food and dining section, you can search all independent types for ALL cuisines in the entire Bay area.

Pane Rustica is a small restaurant, but I wouldnt consider the others I listed to be restaurants, as most just serve coffee's, and have a very limited menu, desserts/pies.

Don't forget the cafe con leche at one of the many cuban mom and pop joints on Tampa Bay Blvd, Armenia Ave, etc. Although those aren't coffeehouses, per se. Sacred Grounds is on Busch actually and is an amazing establishment by the way.

You're right, and the places on Armenia are fantastic.

In the Northwest area are Tanya and Matt's, Mike's Pies, Choxotica, and Sacred Grounds (which you mentioned). Cool Mo's has closed , but it was a drive through... Cool Beans is/was on N Dale Mabry, but I've never stopped in, so I don't know if it's still there. Of course, there's also Bern's dessert room, but main restaurant diners get priority (which IMO is not very nice...maybe I just want dessert for dinner?!?).

Actually, Sacred Grounds is on Busch. There's a great new coffee house on Fowler just East of 56th, in the same strip center as Tokyo Sushi. It is called "Cafe Kili," and is excellent! They have live music some nights (I think Friday Aug 29 is the next one), and the owners, who are from Africa (?Kenya) are really nice.
