Tampa Cuban bread is great- good suggestion above. Truly a unique Tampa treasure.

IMO Mazzaros makes the best bread outside of NY/NJ, hands down- no one comes close.

As straight fact, Bon Appetit bakery in Gulfport makes the best Portugese bread outside of the Ironbound in Newark. Of course they are the only Portugese bread place
I think Mazzaros was the one I was talking about (if it's off 34th).

I've had Fortunato's calzones (but nothing else) - they're the best I've found in the area so far.

I'll definitely try Central Pizza, though, thanks for the tip!

Default I tried Mikey NYC

I would rate Mikey of NYC a 6 out 10. Not bad. It sound like we need to swing by St. Pete.

Any other local Dunedin/Palm Harbor/Clearwater suggestions for good NY Pizza?

Umberto's of Long Island is in Dunedin. I used to go there when they were still on Long Island. Also the best baked clams you'll find down here.

Another good place is in Oldsmar, on Curlew, called Dominick's. They have their pizza dough shipped down from Jersey. "It's all in the water", says Jerry, the owner.

Since I've moved down here, I've thrown more entire pizzas into the trash than I can count. Sometimes we look at each other and say "Are they KIDDING??"

Oy.

Well ok then. You must be a big fan of Denny's and The Golden Corral.

Try Angelo's NY Pizza in Holiday on US19. Just past Darlington Rd on the left in with the Dollar General store. They are from Brooklyn and have been there for years. You have also got to try their calzones. I am from N.Y. and they are the best, especially if you eat it there. They have a full menu. I live in TN now and the only restaurants we miss are Angelo's, Sonny's and Boston Market.
Try it, you wont be dissapointed.

There's no Boston Market in Tennessee? Sheesh, I thought they were all over the place!

Yeah, I purposely avoid the little individually owned places. It's always hit or miss with them. It usually sucks, better to stay with something you know.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude. I'm just really cranky lately. My "New York Attitude" is showing. Sorry, really.

PASTINO'S PIZZERIA!!! Pastino's Neighborhood Grill & Pizzeria - Italian Like You've Never Tasted-

It's on Clearwater/Largo Rd, about 10 minutes south of downtown Dunedin. It's delicious My hubby and I love to go there after a day at the beach, they are super friendly and we've never had even a mediocre meal there!
