I'm planning a move to St Pete from Jax in the near future (6 months +/-) and I'm looking for houses in realtor.com. I've found a number of them and I've got a real estate agent so that's covered. My thing is, I don't know the neighborhoods and I'd like some input from other people, not a professional sales person.
My favorite, which I just found yesterday, is in the 5500 block of 2nd Avenue North, in the 33710 zip code. It's an older 2-story, 3/3, hardwood, 2 fireplaces and a pool in a fenced yard for $165k. From what I can tell by reading all the graphs and charts and checking out satellite photos, it's a decent neighborhood. I haven't gotten into the taxes on the house yet but that's next.
The location is fantastic for me---less than 5 miles from my son and his family, close to shopping, the beach, and a straight shot east on Central to downtown.
I'd like opinions from y'all that have lived there I've been in Jax since 2001, and I came to Florida before Mickey Mouse---got stationed in Orlando in 1970. My folks came to Florida when I did, and they've passed on, and I returned to Orlando after retirement so I'm not new or a snowbird. My son moved to St Pete a year ago for a new job and after 34 years in the Orlando area, he says if he had known it was so nice, he'd have moved a lot sooner. My daughter-in-law was in a bad accident and has some back surgeries coming up over the next 2-3 years and they have 3 little ones so I can help by moving there to be available to help out with whatever.
Thanks for your honest opinions.
