my gf and i are positively going to try to move to florida around June 1st when our lease is up in Michigan. we are going to focus on Saint Petersburg and surrounding areas such as Clearwater in late May before the move. we will be there for about a week, and plan on doing a lot of research while were there. does anyone have any areas/apartments/etc to make sure to check out. we are looking for an apartment in the +/- $800 range, and have a small Labrador dog. we would like to be able to commute to Tampa within about 20minutes for work. we have been looking at apartments online, but wondered if when we got there if there would be a better directory we could buy or something similar to aid in our search. one apartment that caught our attention was Waterside at Coquina Key, does anyone have any experience with this complex? thank you in advance!

If you are looking for a 20 minute commute to Tampa from St. Pete area, than you would want to be in the Gandy Blvd/4th Street area or even Feather Sound area of St. Pete/Clearwater.

Look also at craigslist.com and tbo.com and the st pete times for private condo/townhome rentals.

Actually I was going to say the same thing until I saw the response. So here's another vote for the Gandy Blvd area.

If you're willing to step into the 800+/- area, another option you may want to look into is a rental house in the South Tampa/Westshore area. With the housing market the way it is, there are more and more homes for rent and you may be able to find a good deal. Take a drive down Westshore Blvd, heading south. Some very nice, neighborhood-feel homes in that area. Also down Swann Ave. and the Hyde Park area.

Back to Gandy though, there are some nice apartments in that area, and you are literally smack dab in the middle of Tampa/St. Pete. Go across the bridge and you're in St. Pete. Drive down the road, and you're near downtown Tampa.

Default Here are some others...

You can read tenant comments online at Apartment Ratings - Apartments for Rent with Ratings and Reviews from Actual Renters. The people who usually post are whiners, though...JMHO

You may also search for properties online at the following websites:

it's funny you say that about apartmentratings.com because it is extremely hard to find a complex anywhere that scores above 30% anywhere, whether it be Michigan or Florida. people on there complain soooo much!
