COnsidering a house next to the tracks in Safety Harbor? What is the train schedule for going through there? I have been told there are very few, short trains and not in the middle of the night. Any experience here?

The same line continues south through Largo, where besides the day trains, I do occasionally hear a train sounding its horn in the middle of the night on weekends. If someone living near the line (and/or trying to sell you a home near the line) is telling you otherwise, they're lying.

We rejected living in SH because of the train noise. We had rented in SH and surprised that they come through at such odd hours, horns blaring. 2AM, 4AM. I could never get back to sleep.

It is a spur line runs occasional trains from Tampa to St Petersburg serving local industries. So its not heavily used. Depending on the work load there might be a southbound early and it may return northbound in the after the same day or next. 1 or 2 trains mostly when CSX puts a crew on the line. It isn't daily currently and the largest customer was the Saint Pete Times, as newsprint has steadily declined so has the freight volume over the years.

FYI, it's now 4:49am here in Largo early on a Saturday morning, and I can hear a train sounding its horn.

Still not bad, one train works this local as business demands. I lived in Largo very close to that track between east bay and Ulmerton and it had more rail traffic because the newspaper was big using a lot more paper. Also got to see the rare circus train. For me no problem, plus I saw the train track before I moved in. Its been there for a couple of years, like back in the 40's when regular passenger service along with more frequent freights ran into St. Petersburg.
Now Plant City or zyphr Hills they get 20 or 30+ trains daily 24/7
