I don't know anything about golf in Tampa, but there is a course called Emerald Green around Carrollwood that shouldn't be too far from downtown.

We already have guests coming to visit us (though we haven't moved yet that plan on staying at the golf course) apparently its a resort as well.

From downtown Tampa there are three City of Tampa public course each less than 15 minutes from downtown(Rocky Point, Babe Zaharis, Rogers Park). About 20 minutes form downtown is the USF Course(my fav) with "The Claw".

Check out WESTCHASE - close to downtown - and you may find a discount in green fees in the paper. Brandon's Bloomingdale is about 20 mins away via Selman Xpressway. Nice course, IMO. Not sure what the fees are. The USF Claw is okay - priced right. MacDill AFB has 36 holes. Not sure if it open to the public - might be. South course is along Tampa Bay. Pretty nice, IMO. Probably $30-40/round there for non-military.
