I have been searching the forums for info about the Clearwater area, I am not finding much.

Not interested in schools, just basic safety concerns, things to do for a single 50ish women.

Also wondering if traffic is better or worse than around East coast "Port St. Lucie" area. If any one has any experience with that area, traffic wise.

You are about the same age as me, but I don't know what you like to do.
The new Clearwater Library is nice and surely has some social activities available.
The town of Dunedin is nice, has lots of art events. It's nearby.
There is plenty of physical activities in local Ys etc.
Golf/tennis etc all over the place and you can hook up with golfers and tennis people pretty easily I'd say.
Every leisure center seems to offer enrichment courses of differing types. The Gulf Coast Museum of ARts has a social circle.
I just looked at some nice townhomes near the downtown area, for a buyer, they are reasonable, in a good location, right by Publix shopping center and reasonable prices to buy. You can drive into your garage and walk into house.

Finally, you might like downtown St Petersburg, there is so much cultural activity going on there, from Shakespeare in the Park to Street motor racing, to Ribfest (one day I'll go!) to parades, monthly gallery walks, outdoor concerts, marathons etc etc etc.
Homes can be pricey in the nicer areas, but still its a good time to buy in FL

If you are thinking of renting, there is tons of available condo space in lovely waterfront condos on the beaches, I have run across 3 bedroom luxury condos for under $1600.
If you are looking at a lot less, there is plenty in the $900-$1200 range in nice areas.
Traffic is not bad I dont think, depends on where you live and where you work.
If you can put down some more info, you will undoubtably get more advice.

As for East coast/west coast traffic differences, all depends, if you can avoid highways it helps, but even main thoroughfares get heavy at rush hour.

Thx for taking the time to answer spainbrit, very helpful.

Nobody ever says anything nice about Clearwater, but then nobody says what the problems are either, so I am confused......Is it not a safe place to live, it is north of st pete.

I want to live near St.Petersburg, it sounds like so much fun. I am just trying to find the safe area close by, because I don't like to drive 20 miles every time I go somewhere.

What about the barrier Islands?
