Good Mexican food?
So, I've had a horrible time even finding edible Mexican food in Tampa
Does anyone have any suggestions? Some place in New Tampa would be nice, but we're willing to drive if it's good!
Thanks

My favorite is Vallarta's on Dale Mabry in Carrollwood. They have some others with the same name, but they're just not as good. Authentic Mexican. Great lunch buffet.

Have you tried Miguel's on Kennedy? We use to eat lunch there a lot. The chili rellenos are good.
We also went to Taqueria Mi Mexico * 4205 N. Armenia Ave.
That is real mexican food not texmex. Not fancy by any stretch of the imagination, actually kind of a hole in the wall. You can drive right by it and not even know it is a restaurant.

No doubt, Algusto's on Kennedy Blvd just east of the University of Tampa, downtown Tampa...the freshest and best Mexican in Tampa. My buddies from Texas swear by it.

My two favorite places are El Taconazo on Hillsborough near I-275, and Malena's on Fletcher Ave near USF. Neither are in the best of neighborhoods, but awesome food.

By far Vallarta's in Carrollwood !! I travel from Riverview for theirs. Their service is friendly and great. Try the "Texas Margareta".

Most people in Tampa consider Chili's real mexican food so it's hard to get a good answer from most of the locals.
I think the closest thing to "real" mexican food in Tampa would be Los Vallarta Mexican Restruant located at 5335 Village Market Wesley Chapel, FL 33544, which is very close to the new end of New Tampa.
I actually prefer Tex-Mex food myself which also seems to be hard to find in Tampa. If you interested in the Tex-Mex style the only decent place I know of is, Tia's Tex Mex located at 2815 E Fowler Ave Tampa, FL 33612, but if your willing to drive a few minutes out a bit I would recommend Mi Casa Mexican Restaurant which is located right as you pull off the Thonotosassa exit at, 2613 Thonotosassa Rd Plant City, FL 33563.
Hope that helps.

It's a hike for you - but El Maguey on 66th Street in St. Petersburg is authentic Mexican food, not tex-mex - the best I had in the area.
