Looks like the love bugs will be another non event this year. In the 80's and 90's just about every car had a screen covering its front grill. Car Washes had lines around the block. Semi's coming from up north would be covered in body parts an inch thick. All the shaded areas outside would be crawling with amorous insects. My dog would freak out when he needed to go outside. Last couple years, ho-hum.

I learned that 1. clean them off the same day as you collect them.

2. A wet laundry dryer sheet will wipe them right off.

I had NEVER seen them in Miami, since i Live here from 1988 on forward, yet last week they were lots of couples copulating in the Miami Air, I figure between here and Yeehaw Junction the INFESTATION must be Huge, I promise I will not venture that way for at least 2 more months..... Hate the Nasty and Smelly Critters.

Don't do this is you care about your clearcoat and paint. The reason they work is because they're abrasive. They're essentially super-fine sandpaper. Soak the front of your car. I mean absolutely soak. Hose it down for a solid 10 minutes so the baked on buggies soak up water and get soft, and then scrub them off with some decent car wash soap and a car wash brush. It's much easier if you can do it at night so the water doesn't evaporate as quick.

If this isn't an option, hit up the car wash every couple days and spend the $50 at the end of the season to get a decent handwash/detail.

As for your windshields, use very fine steel wool and scrub gently in a circle motion. It is safe for glass as long as you use the very fine steel wool WITHOUT soap on it. The soap is an abrasive. Spray windshield with water, rub down with the steel wool, squeegee off. Your windows will be crystal clear.

Umm...yeah, no crap. It's lovebug season. You're going to encounter more than one swarm and you're going to need to wash your car more than once.

Also, I've forgotten more about car detailing than you'll ever know, so take my advice or don't. I'm not here to impress you.
