Default where to live near USF

I am looking for a one bedroom apartment starting in the middle of June.
after reading some of the posts and do a lot of google search.
I just wondering whether someone can give me some advice on where to live.
I have some place in mind from my top to low preference

my budget is around $1000 for everything (rent, utility, high speed internet + premium cable)
and I am looking for safe place with moderate traffic to USF in the morning.

1. new tempa/tempa palms
2. Oldsmar? (close to upper tampa bay park around w hillsborough ave , i contact preserve at mobley bay, seems nice and i suppose it is close to beach but I was a little worried about traffic to USF)
2. carrollwood (i read that there is a dead man in some lake recently)
3. temple terrace
5. lutz, FL 33559 (it is called preserve at Deer Park Aprtment and I read that it is not safe in that area)

I am not quite familiar with name of neighborhood in tempa, so please correct me if I am wrong.

thanks a lot.

thanks for your information
NO. I am not a student. Just have a research position in USF. So I am looking for some place more than a student apartment.

honest question - how can people afford these rent levels? i'm coming from pittsburgh, where i pay $525 including ALL utilities for a great 1 BR right off the pitt campus...and i won't be able to get anything for less than $900 total in a decent neighborhood for USF. i dont have that kind of money even with my fellowship, but i have no choice!

Agreed, rents are HIGH. I just looked around a lot with my son and his girlfriend who are students at USF. By FAR the best one was the Lodge at LakeCrest on McKinley Dr. These units are brand-new, and not in a bad neighborhood. They got a 1-BR at a 13-mo lease for $830 (utilities not included).

Best of luck!
Teresa

Yeah. The place looks nice but really expensive. and
I thought people said you should stay away from west and south side directly around USF campus.
I visit USF once and the west side of the MALL area doesn't looks good.
if you find anything interesting. please let me know also.
Thank you very much.

Look along Bruce B Downs. Also carlton arms located on fletcher rent starts at 568 for an efficiency and goes up to $900 for a town home. I cannot find another place that offers the patio space carlton arms has.

Well, the special rate of $830 was definitely the cheapest one at the Lodge! This rate is similar to the ones in Tampa Palms up on BB Downs (Jade, a couple of others). And yes, you should stay away in general from south and west of USF, but this particular complex has Busch Gardens immediately south, and has commercial buildings on all the other sides. (Construction will soon be starting on a research center for Moffitt Hospital immediately to the north.) It is gated, and not in the middle of the bad neighborhoods. Once you get west of BB Downs (30th St.) it is more problematic. And around the mall, no go.

Here are a few of the others we checked out:

My kids also liked Carlton Arms pretty well, and it is well east of USF, in a pretty setting, and also gated. The buildings are very old, though. Rents are a bit less, more like $700 for 1 BR.

Camden Live Oaks just off BB Downs east of campus in Tampa Palms has some for $700 range, as well as River Chase which is a little farther, southeast of USF on Bullard Parkway (Busch Blvd)--still only about a 15 minute drive.

Best of luck!
Teresa

Thank you very much Teresa.
It is really helpful.
After google search a lot, I will focus on Tempa Palm and New Tempa Region.
hopes your kids find the best one.
