Orlando is worse than Tampa too, but who gets more visits. I mean Miami and Orlando gets more visitors and still has more crime.

This is what's WILD and totally misleading, wild indeed.

As for 2022 CRIME? St Pete is now worse than Tampa:

Is it possible that some natives/residents don't like some kind of "Bohemian VIBE"? I mean everyone need not agree on what their own city should be, right? It's America, it's their own city, people are free not to roll over and endorse what they consider a weird of strange surrounding. Where does this stuff come from? some change is good, all kinds of change is not, right? some natives don't want to see crime, homelessness, drug usage and weird people up and down the streets, that's normal. Some people like to see a bunch of graffiti/wall murals everywhere, others think they're tacky and awful. It's true in some residents' eyes that they just might think St Pete is becoming a mecca for weird people, crime, or even a bunch of dogwakers in flipflops, so what? that's their perception and opinion. It's called fairness, freedom of speech, and foundational America. Why is that deserving of some kind of attack or hand-wringing or pearl clutching? Lots of citizens disagree on lots of developments. That's real life in the City.

there is nothin like FREEDOM of speech in America, some just don't like what that means which is anathema to freedom, others can't stand what others articulate as opinion, so guess who has a problem? don't like what is said? well ignore it rather than try to eliminate it! more speech is the answer!

I'm for more speech, how about you? but small people focus on personalities rather than content. The US seems screwed to fail.....some more LOL...that's what our problem is right now and it's evident even on sites such as this it seems....sad indeed

St.Pete has certain neighborhoods changing a lot but that is common for the time. Seems strange to see one towering next to the ranch homes on the same block. People want to live here and will pay a lot to. Beautiful beaches and the parks are kept up. We even have our own Climate First Bank. I would rather see a business contribute to the community first but that's just me.
One of our news channels now call their weather people Climate Specialists. Many people would like that kind of nonsense. Traffic is bad in St. Pete. Getting more crowded so it must be popular. A lot of restaurants. Downtown may not be for everyone but it is trendy and has unique little shops etc. The area is what you make of it. Some like old some like new. But a nice city in all.

Been to South Tampa? That place is the poster child for "knock-downs". It's weird because you'll see a little 1940s bungalow and next door is this huge, towering, stucco-covered behemoth of a McMansion.

No matter, as when the Big One comes they'll be under water...

It would appear that we have learned to politicize almost everything,...

Some of us decided that we do not like a neighborhood, town, city, state because of their inhabitants.

So it is no longer that we like or don't like the architecture of the city, or their restaurants and bars, or their beaches or national parks, or the weather...

It is about who lives there: democrats, republicans, gay/lesbians or religious folks, or hipsters or blacks or Latinos or even white people!

We get uncomfortable around those who do not look and talk like us or like the same music, or same food, dress different, believe in the same god, and the list goes on...don't get me started on "family values"

We feel so insecure when we leave our homes and come to the realization that the rest of the world can be quite different than our pre-conceptions on what "normal" should look and sound like. I am not I am not a FL native. I actually live in NY now for over 30 years. We welcome everybody here. The NYC subway is probably one place where a middle eastern woman wearing a burka will sit next to the outrageous Drag Queen and next to the Wall St broker in a suit

One of the things I find fascinating about FL is the diversity of people, cities, architecture, food, vibes

I think St Pete is awesome and so is Sarasota and Clearwater and Hollywood and Boca Raton, etc., etc., etc.
They are all so different and they all have something unique that you may not find in the neighbor town

So what if the residents of Boca are dirty reach and the ones from Pompano maybe not so much?

and what if those who settle in Dunedin and Naples are conservative and those who flee to St Pete or Ft Lauderdale are democrats? why can't we give the beach in Clearwater or the downtown galleries in St Pete or the Cuban dancing clubs in Miami or magnificent art deco architecture of SB the credit they deserve? without thinking too much on the political affiliation, religious or sex orientation or race of their citizens?

And please! get over the resentment about visitors or transplants who are bringing money to the state!
Thanks to many of them there are also more jobs, improving the economy.
They are bringing their money that they are now spending in FL
They are not competing with your jobs either because most bring their onw jobs!

and no! It is not a US phenomenon people ! Google Costa Rica, Los Cabos, Peru, Portugal, Spain , St Martin, Puerto Rico, etc., where America retirees are fleeing too! Guess what? the locals are not complaining! They are actually embracing American Transplants!

That makes this wonderful country unique: the diversity of their beautiful people from all over the world, of all races, colors, religions, political and financial status, all professions, etc. That makes us stronger, unique. the envy of foreign dictatorships, far left and right

The vibe I get from St. Pete is awesome. I love that city. Outstanding downtown, beautiful beaches 10 - 12 miles away. Lively suburbs: Dunedin, Safety Harbor, Tarpon Springs...etc..

I remember visiting St. Pete way back in 1998. It was pretty cool, to be honest, but really was... I don't know how to explain it. Somewhat undeveloped. But at that time, most of Florida was undeveloped. Anyone who's ever been to Jupiter Island... it had that same kind of feel. Old Florida feel... there were wealthy people, and then a lot of 30A type people (good ole Florida people who fish every day).

I've been there a few times over the past year, and it's definitely, definitely been built up. It reminds me now more like... Orange Beach in Alabama, or Pensacola Beach.

So it's not "weird" per-se, but it's definitely different. It's very commercialized now, with a lot of tourists. You still see some of the nice older buildings (which by all accounts, are still affordable, and in 15-20 years probably will not be).

For the bad part, there is a lot of drugs in Florida, particularly around the Tampa area, and that comes with it a lot of crime... crime usually committed to afford drugs (break-ins, prostitution, etc.). I think St. Pete is going through a transition period, but I think for the most part... it's improving.

I do miss "old Florida" ... specifically like how I remember Jupiter when I'd just pull up onto the sand behind the dunes, and there was literally no one on the beach, and I could go snorkling everywhere with the coral coming right up to the shore ... compared to how it is today, with the road paved, specific parking spots, people EVERYWHERE... etc. And I'm seeing St. Pete like that too. It's part of progress, unfortunately... part of Florida being successful, and everyone wanting to move there.
