Forget trying to get on the beaches as the tourists clog them up 11 months out of the year. Also the brutally hot weather is not 3 months out of the year its about 7 months out of the year. I live up in Brooksville which is about 40 minutes north of Tampa and it was 92 here on Christmas day with about 95% humidity. Having been here most of my life I can assure you that Florida might be a nice place to vacation but it is a nightmare to live here.
If your looking for less tourist crowded beaches, head to Fort DeSoto, Pass-a-Grille, or even HoneyMoon Island, Caladesi Island in Pinellas County. October to May provide the most comfortable weather, with Dec/Jan/Feb temps mostly in the 50's for lows to 70's for highs.

I think that your commute estimates are a little unrealistic. You have to deal with the interchange to get into downtown. We lived in Lakeland, and my husbands commute was between 1hr-and 1:15 to the business district on a weekday morning. Now we live in New Tampa, and it's about 45 minutes. Brandon would be at least that unless you take the crosstown (toll) expressway. Also none of these areas have much nightlife (we are in your age group I think). Please also double check your estimates about "positive combined income" of 100K- USF graduates hundreds of Business Administration students every semester- and average pay does not always apply here. IE- the average expected Accounting graduate should expect around 35K- not 45K which is the national median. Not to shoot you down, but we are in your demographic and looking to get out of here.- And I'm a Florida native
