Then you need an education. It is free speech -your answer "dont look" is fine. l I am not going to look. I am going to say its pathetic , ignorant and just stupid. And anyone who condones flying this flag is the same.

So from what I gather from your post is that you can have your freedoms but other people's freedoms are pathetic, ignorant and stupid if they do not align with you views.

Its an opinion. You can have all the free thoughts you want does not mean everyone has to agree with them. That flag flying over the city is a disgrace to me.

I am in total agreement that this is shameful. But in all fairness, I occasionally saw confederate flags while living in ultra liberal northern California. There are idiots every where.

Just to be correct, the flag is actually flying on a small piece of land between two interstates, about 12 miles East of the city. I think it's actually in Seffner/Hillsborough County.

I see nothing wrong with this flag. It's a part of our heritage and history. What's wrong is when one of our soldiers is reprimanded for shooting up the Koran - even though Middle Eastern countries burn and desecrate the red, white and blue and have done so for YEARS!!!!!!!
And Sharon Stone is ridiculed for freedom of speech about China - I don't agree with what she said, but China sure as hell hasn't ever been our ally. I'm sure nothing would have been done had she made her remarks about a Soviet Union. These people are our enemies. 10 years ago, Muslims barely existed in this country - now I have seen a girl in a hijab at my place of work. I don't care if she's the most peaceable person on earth, religion of any kind has NO place in the work place. |

Man, I thought Tampa was a little more forward thinking than this. Disappointing.
The funny thing is this. People say that it's totally American to fly the rebel flag... really? The Confederate flag was the symbol of a rebel faction bent on DESTROYING the United States. The war wasn't between the north and south per se. It was a war between The United States commonly called "the North" and the self proclaimed Confederate States who wanted to do one of two things, either dissolve the United States by shattering the union... or simply breaking themselves free and forming their own country (which would ruin the agricultural base of the United States and would not end well for us). The Confederacy was an ENEMY to the United States... not a branch of government... not a mens club... not a band of good ol' boys... they were a fully equipped rebel army that had the intention of erasing the United States from the world map. They took arms against Americans. They disliked the United States so much that they killed people. There is nothing warm, fuzzy, or nostalgic about them. That's the heritage of the Confederacy. If you fly the flag or agree with it, then ask yourself this... What if somebody wanted to: put up statues honoring terrorist group members at your local park... or sell merchandise with "[insert terror organization name] shall rise again"... or paint a terrorist symbol on a car for a TV show with the main characters driving it around and outsmarting the law... or better yet...fly a terrorist organizations flag over your state capitol... Would you be a little upset? Flying the Confederate flag and honoring their army is the same F***ing thing. So, no it's not the same as flying the flag of another nation or like wearing a Pepsi shirt among Coca-Cola drinkers... it's worse, much worse. Last edited by DustyButt; 06-05-2008 at 05:44 AM. |
