I have been looking at reviews for apartments in St Pete and am going crazy. I dont know who to believe. Most of the reviews are negative and the few positive ones seem scripted and probably written by staff of the complex. Are the places in St Pete that bad? I was looking at complexes right near Gandy and 4th. Not sure exactly what that area is called. Can anyone give me an honest opinion on apartments in the area? In any area(St Pete,Largo,Clearwater,Pinellas Park etc) I am single with no children. Not terribly picky but dont want to live in a dump either. I am looking in the 700 to 900 dollar a month range. HELP! Thanks

You may want to post in the Tampa Forum as well, The area around Gandy and 4th street is a good area, lots of rental apartments and condominiums, easy access to Tampa via Gandy and Howard Frankland (I-275) bridges, and less than 15 minutes from downtown St. Pete via 4th street, about 20 mins from Gulf beaches.

Are there particular apartments you are looking for?

"Gateway" A lot of people live in this area for equal access to Pinellas and Tampa. You're going to have to take a deep breath, most housing in Pinellas has risk whether you rent or own. My worst housing experience was in a townhome community where nearly every one is an owner. I was the good renter, and the other renters were arrested for a lot of things. I know people with million dollar waterfront homes that have insane neighbors. I also know people that allegedly live in "ghetto" areas that love it and have a strong sense of community. In Florida, especially Pinellas, looks and reputation can be deceiving. It's best to visit the neighborhood at night, on the weekend, and after a heavy rain.

Will you be signing a lease sight unseen?

Thanks for the responses. I think I will narrow it down to the gateway area and roll the dice from there. Thanks again

Gandy and 4th st is a great area. You have access to Tampa and the interstate nearby. Just don't go south of 5 av n. There are REALLY bad areas in S St. Pete. Also areas near the Sunshine Skyway are nice. Good luck in the search.
