There is a semi-regular poster on this forum who goes by mquintana (I think). She works in an apartment community in Brandon, so she should be able to give you the local scoop. I'm not sure how it works, but you may be able to send her a direct message or if it's in her profile, you could send her an email. I know this isn't much, but it's a lead! And don't forget you can search for privately owned rentals on Craigslist and also on Move.com.

Good luck!

We prefer a quiet and safe neighborhood that isnt too far away from nightlife and activities. Any help would would be awesome. Thanks a bunch!!!

Curious if you found your apartment. Where?

I am living in Alaska with my husband and 2 kids..(1 yr old and 4 yr old)...We are planning on moving to Tampa. Anyone got any suggestions for a safe and clean place to live? I a looking for a 2 bedroom, something clean and not noisy. I am open to suggestions and advice. My husband owns his own business here as an IT consultant, and I am a substitute teacher here, which brings me to another question, how are the substitute teaching and it fields in Tampa?or even other parts of Florida/?

Rent in Brandon. It's a nice area and much cheaper. It's not as "cool" as South Tampa but I don't think you'll be unhappy.

As a gainfully employed IT professional, I would not recommend
moving here in this economy to start or transfer an IT business.
My company covers the entire state and people are not spending
money on infrastructure. Plus this is the worst economy since the
depression. Don't come here without at least 18 months salary (since
it takes nearly a year for even the highest qualified candidates) or without
your own health benefits. I think you need to focus on those things before
looking for apartments. That's part of the problem in Florida. People just thought all the other stuff would fall into place because they were smarter, more driven, or more qualified. We're inundated with qualified people here.

Oh and you may be able to find part time sub work but you'll be competing with hundreds of applicants for the same slots. Part time or as needed is most likely.

I think this exact topic (maybe even by the same poster) was discussed elsewhere on the board relative to Tampa and several people gave the same advice about NOT coming to this area now , particularly for IT or teaching, and in this economy. If people really want to move here they are going to keep asking this question until they get the answer they want to hear. There are other areas of the country that obviously have better weather than Alaska and a better economic and employment outlook than Florida. I agree that in these two fields this market is inundated with qualified people (and consulting businesses) who are seeking to fill few, if any needs/openings.

Moving to Tampa in a few weeks, need names of good (safe) apartments. Not sure of areas, was thinking Brandon, temple terrace, riverview- any other ideas? Want to stay close to city, but not in city- just need a one bedroom
